A planning conversation at a table with laptops and documents

Our Process

A planning process built around your decisions.

Financial planning shouldn't feel like a homework assignment or a stack of documents.

Our process is designed to help you understand where you stand, identify the opportunities and decisions that matter, and leave each stage knowing what comes next.

The Philosophy

Start with understanding. End with action.

Before making recommendations, we want to understand the full picture.

We'll look at your income, cash flow, balance sheet, investments, taxes, insurance, estate planning, goals, and the decisions ahead.

Then we bring it together in one place, walk through what we're seeing, and help you determine what makes sense.

You won't receive a giant financial plan and be left to figure out what it means.

We'll sit down together and work through it.

The Process

From financial picture to clear decisions.

Every client is different, but our initial planning process follows a straightforward path.

Steps 2 through 4 are delivered as part of the One-Time Financial Plan. At Step 5, you decide how you'd like to continue.

01

Start with a conversation

Let's talk about what's going on.

We start with a 30-minute introductory call.

We'll talk about what's happening in your financial life, what prompted you to reach out, what decisions you're facing, and where you could use some help.

There are no documents, forms, or financial homework required.

It's simply a conversation to see whether we're a good fit.

What the Experience Feels Like

Less paperwork. More conversation.

Financial planning can sometimes feel like filling out forms, receiving a 100-page report, and being told to come back next year.

That's not how I want to work.

I want you to understand the numbers and the decisions behind them.

We'll use technology to organize and analyze your financial information, but the important part of the process happens when we sit down together and talk through what it means.

You won't just get answers.

You'll understand the reasoning behind them.

You won't get recommendations in isolation.

We'll look at how they affect the rest of your financial life.

You won't be handed a plan and sent on your way.

You'll leave knowing what to do next.

Working With Your Other Advisors

Your financial plan should work alongside your other professionals.

Your CPA, estate-planning attorney, insurance professionals, and other advisors each play an important role.

When appropriate, I'll coordinate with them so that important decisions aren't being made in isolation.

Tax strategy is particularly important.

When we're considering a Roth conversion, business distribution, retirement contribution, equity-compensation decision, charitable gift, investment strategy, or other major financial move, the tax implications should be part of the conversation from the beginning.

FAQ

What happens during the first meeting?

The first meeting is a 30-minute introductory conversation. We'll discuss your goals, challenges, priorities, and what prompted you to seek advice.

There are no documents, forms, or financial homework required.

It's an opportunity for both of us to determine whether we're a good fit.

How long does the initial planning process take?

The timing depends on the complexity of your financial situation and how quickly we can gather the necessary information.

The process typically includes an introductory conversation, information gathering, analysis, and a dedicated plan presentation where we review the recommendations together.

Do I receive a written financial plan?

Your plan lives primarily in your RightCapital profile, where we can visualize your financial picture and planning recommendations.

After our plan presentation, I'll also send you a written summary of the recommendations and action items we discussed.

The goal isn't to give you a thick report.

It's to make sure you understand the plan and know what to do with it.

Do I have to become an ongoing client?

No.

The One-Time Financial Plan is designed for clients who want comprehensive planning and are comfortable implementing the recommendations themselves.

If you'd like ongoing planning support—or want investment management as part of the relationship—you can choose one of our ongoing services.

Can you work with my CPA?

Absolutely.

When appropriate, we coordinate with your CPA and other professional advisors so financial and tax decisions can be considered together.

Does the plan change over time?

Yes.

If you become an Ongoing Planning or Wealth Management client, we revisit your plan as your income, taxes, investments, family, business, goals, and other circumstances change.

Get Started

Let's start with a conversation.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you reach out.

Tell me what's changing, what's complicated, or what you're trying to accomplish.
